Nowadays the new environemnt of telecommunication is characterized by a step and a race to competition between different companies, operators and industries to provide unimaginable services to the users. A method to provide rich and plenty of new services was done by the introduction of the Intellgent Network (IN) technology. In the beginning of telecommunication networks the idea was to develop the physical aspects of such a network. For many decades the goal was to provide an efficient and less costly connection between distant sites. At that time no importance was accorded for the future need and deployment of services. There came a time where the need to deploy new services was felt, because of the users needs. In those early days new services were integrated right in the switches software throughout the whole network. With the years flowing by, there came a time around the 1990's, where no more software for new services could be placed in the switches. The reason for this was because of management problems, safety problems, adaptive measures, vendors problems etc... Management was becoming too much of a complex task becuase of the enormous amount of services put in place. With all the software of services placed in the heart of the switches the number of safety problems were increasng. Adaptive measures add to be done on old software because of the new software placed in the switches. Vendors problems concerning the independance of the equipment, created other problems. To diverge from what could have been a possible catastrophe speculated by some people, the concept of IN came at the rescue. The primarily concern was to no longer embed the switches or any other equipment with new software. A totally new and flexible network architecture had to be designed.
