ManageWise

ManageWise Streamlines Long-Term Projects

ManageWise not only solves and repairs most of your network problems, but it constantly works in the background to help you with long-term projects that you usually don't have time to complete. The following explains how ManageWise can help you with some typical projects.

Updates workstations with new software

Updating workstations with new software is probably necessary for your organization to meet business needs. However, it usually gets postponed because it takes too long to execute a network-wide update. With ManageWise, you can quickly determine which systems have outdated software, along with their memory and disk space requirements.

ManageWise also includes add-ons for automated software distribution. These add-ons let you quickly and easily distribute software from a central console without requiring you to attend each workstation and repeating tedious installations. Also, they let you schedule the update at off-peak hours or let your users request the update at their leisure.

Reports on server performance over the last year

ManageWise helps you be more proactive and effective in troubleshooting to avoid costly downtime. But its usefulness doesn't end there. It also collects information you need for long-term projects and analyzes trends of your server's performance parameters, including CPU usage, memory usage, users logged and print queue length, over the last month or last year and then lets you view results graphically.

Analyzes declining network performance

ManageWise provides distributed analysis tools that let you monitor network traffic trends and make better decisions about your network more cost effectively. With ManageWise, you can understand traffic routes and their relative costs to optimize network traffic. For example, you may need to move a server closer to users who use it more frequently.

ManageWise Provides Powerful Capabilities

ManageWise offers the only end-to-end management in one package on the market. As a result of this integrated set of proven technologies, you receive comprehensive and cohesive capabilities for asset management, server management, desktop management, network analysis and virus protection. The following fully describes each of those powerful capabilities.

Automated Asset Management

Keeping track of what's connected to a network, especially one with multiple segments, hubs, servers and gateways, can be a daunting experience. ManageWise simplifies this process by automatically tracking all network components, such as hardware and software. Rather than walking around to each user's desk and the wiring closet to collect asset details, you simply gather critical information at your desktop.

Automatic network discovery

ManageWise eliminates the need to take physical inventory. It automatically discovers network devices-including routers, hubs, servers and desktops, regardless of protocols. To obtain specific information and focus on your particular group, ManageWise lets you target a specific workgroup or domain. Discovery can also run unattended or be scheduled for continuous or periodic updates.

Integrated graphical maps

ManageWise displays devices discovered in hierarchical, graphical maps. Internetwork maps provide an overview of the network topology, showing how Ethernet and token-ring segments are logically interconnected with routers. Segment maps display active stations on the network for a specific segment, and you can customize these maps to show the geographical location of sites and devices.

Hardware and software inventory

ManageWise also tracks hardware and software loaded on networked DOS and Windows PCs, Macintosh desktops and NetWare servers. ManageWise automatically scans each node for component information, such as processor type, memory size and installed software applications. You can then define and search for supplemental information during an asset scan. All asset information is stored in an inventory database, making it easy to find sets of stations with similar configurations.

Address management

ManageWise facilitates the management of IPX and IP network addresses by displaying a tabular report of network numbers in use, along with the physical media type, system name and sublet mask. Quick identification of assigned addresses eliminates duplications when adding new nodes to the network. ManageWise also identifies duplicate addresses to quickly isolate offending nodes.
