Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR)
Network numbers according to classes of addresses are no longer valid.
IP address format changes to <IP Address, Prefix>.
Primarily used in ISP routing tables.
- The global Internet routing tables
- Most hosts on a network would not understand this
Easy examples are changing the class address.
- Class A has a /8 prefix
- Class B has a /16 prefix
- Class C has a /24 prefix
What about 198.1.192.0/20?
- Supernetted Class C address which provides for route aggregation using a concept similar to VLSM
